The Ability Resource Center’s vision is to create livable communities where individuals with I/DD are able to find accessible and affordable housing, strong social networks, needs of daily living, connection to professional services and resources, and mutually supportive gathering spaces.

As a young organization determined to address a holistic view of inclusion, we collaborate with members, families, and the broader community to seek funding through grant proposals, donations, and fundraising events to grow our emergency housing assistance fund. Individuals with disabilities are at particular risk of displacement as some of the lowest wage earners in our country. Rising costs of living contribute to this insecurity, in addition to the lack of affordable accessible housing.

Our Ability Housing Assistance initiative aims to build an emergency housing assistance fund and offer temporary emergency housing for individuals with I/DD in our member community. Our long-term vision is to build safe, accessible, equitable, and sustainable housing and neighborhood communities. We strive for individuals with I/DD to gain full participation as valued members with non-disabled residents.

As we grow our funds, future goals include accessibility renovation projects for currently affordable leasing complexes, as well as working with local housing organizations, owners, and policymakers to expand fair housing opportunities and minimize the disproportionate competition individuals with disabilities face for accessible units.
